Another Inuit word given to the strips of raw hide used to make fastenings and snow shoe string. The Orcadians who travelled over were considered very adaptable to the harsh conditions and hard manual labour. One text describes them as,

“Hardy people both to endure cold and hunger. Hard working, extremely thrifty and usually sober”
